My father grew up in the small town of Edinburg, Texas. He was born the youngest of nine; seven sons and two daughters. The children grew up in a catholic home, working the farm and family store - Martin Farm & Ranch Supply. As a child, I would visit my father’s side of the family quite often, all 8 of his siblings' homes and families and farmland.
“Ninety One” follows my return to South Texas after 19 years. I was met with unchanging walls, chairs, shelves and decor, matching memories of intricate detail from my childhood. In the quiet mornings and evenings I dedicated to shooting, I reconnected with family over coffee and chicken feed, sharing stories of heritage, religion, and livestock. My uncles established a numbering system for themselves and their children, since there are so many of them. My father being number nine, and myself being his firstborn, makes me number ninety one.
