0101 stems from a series of photographs taken on New Year’s at midnight. I found myself alone in the fog on an unfamiliar hill with just my cameras and the sounds of distant fireworks. On a day that is to bring new beginnings, I carried a heavy weight of uncertainty and anxiety during the climb to these trees. But as the fog reflected back the unknowing of what lies ahead, I found comfort in that isolation. I set out to capture the scene around me that so accurately portrayed my current state of mind. I used only my car headlights to light the trees. After developing my film, I had the urge to destroy these photos, even though I thought them to be my best work. I wanted to hide the loneliness I saw, yet also reinvent its memory as it fades away.

Chromoskedasic Sabattier is the process of lifting the silver halides in gelatin silver paper to the surface, resulting in a multicolor, metallic sheen. With the chromo activator and stabilizer chemistry, it is possible to control and manipulate different outcomes of browns, greens, oranges and purples. Over the course of many months, 50 hours in the darkroom, 10 minute long exposures, and lots of trial and error, I created a variety of 8x10, 11x14, and 16x20 prints, each unique to its development and outcome. Printed on Ilford FB Warmtone Semi-Matt photo paper and selenium toned.
